The best Claude video editing skills in 2026, and what each one actually does
There are now dozens of Claude Code skills that promise to edit video. Most do one job, a few generate video from code, and almost none take raw phone clips to a finished reel. Here's the honest shortlist, sorted by the job you need done.
Short answer
There's no single best skill; each does one job. Use the official Remotion plugin to build videos from code, Tella's Cut Video to remove silences and filler from recordings, Clipify or YouTube Clipper to cut clips from long videos, and the digitalsamba video toolkit for explainers. To take raw clips to a finished reel, you need several skills working together, or a complete system.
Search "Claude video editing skill" and you get marketplaces with hundreds of listings, roundups written by the companies that make the skills, and GitHub repos with a few thousand stars. It's hard to tell what any of them hands back to you.
So this list sorts the most-cited skills by the job they do. Facts below come from each project's own page or README, viewed on 27 October 2026. Star counts are snapshots from that day and will drift.
What is a Claude video editing skill?
A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file in it: written instructions that tell Claude how to do a task, plus any scripts it needs. According to Anthropic's Claude Code docs, personal skills live in ~/.claude/skills/<name>/, project skills in .claude/skills/<name>/, and plugins can bundle several skills that you install from the /plugin menu. Claude loads a skill when your request matches it, or when you type /skill-name.
The skill itself doesn't edit anything. It tells Claude Code which tools to run on your computer: FFmpeg to cut, Whisper to transcribe, Remotion to render graphics. That's why video skills only work in Claude Code with those tools installed, not in the claude.ai chat window. Our guide to using Claude as a video editor explains that pipeline step by step.

Best for videos made from code: the official Remotion plugin
Remotion is the renderer behind most Claude video work. Its official Claude Code plugin installs with claude plugin marketplace add remotion-dev/claude-code-plugin and claude plugin install remotion@remotion, then /remotion:remotion-create starts a new video from a plain-English prompt. A May 2026 roundup on aiskill.market gave the Remotion skill its only 5/5 score among 15 video skills.
It's excellent for animated explainers, product promos, data videos and title cards. It's not a footage editor: it writes React components that render into an MP4. If you shot 12 clips on your phone, Remotion alone won't pick your best take.
Licence note: Remotion's licence is free for individuals, non-profits and for-profit companies with up to 3 employees. Bigger companies need a paid company licence from remotion.pro. Agencies, check this before you build on it.
Best for tightening recordings: Tella's Cut Video
Cut Video is one of a set of free, open-source skills from Tella, the screen-recording company, which lists them on its skills page. It makes a proxy, transcribes with Whisper, aligns every word, plans the cuts, checks each boundary and renders with FFmpeg. It keeps laughs and deliberate pauses instead of chopping every gap. MIT licence, about 114 stars.
Two catches for Indian creators. It's built for macOS on Apple Silicon; the README says Windows and Linux work if you remove the hardware-decoding flags. And it's set up with English speech models, so expect problems on Hindi or Hinglish audio unless you change them.
Best for social clips: Clipify, Add Zooms and B-Roll Finder
Tella's other editing skills each handle one finishing job:
- Clipify finds clip-worthy moments in a long video, reframes 16:9 to 9:16 with pans that follow the speaker, and adds captions.
- Add Zooms adds punch-zooms and slow push-ins to flat talking-head footage, timed from the transcript.
- B-Roll Finder places cutaways on the exact word they illustrate. It sources clips with a downloader (yt-dlp), so make sure you have the rights to anything it pulls in.
Tella's own August 2026 roundup ranks these in its list of the 12 best Claude Code skills. That's a vendor ranking its own work, so treat it as a description, not a review. They chain together well if you're comfortable in a terminal.
Best for clipping YouTube videos: YouTube Clipper
YouTube Clipper (about 2,300 stars, MIT licence) downloads a YouTube video, splits it into chapters by topic, clips segments with FFmpeg, makes bilingual subtitles and can burn them in. It also writes social summaries, mainly for Chinese platforms. You need Python, yt-dlp and an FFmpeg build with subtitle support. It's useful for repurposing your own long videos; it's the wrong tool for reels you shoot on your phone.
Best all-in-one kit for developers: the Claude Code Video Toolkit
The digitalsamba toolkit (about 2,400 stars, MIT) is the biggest bundle: skills for Remotion, FFmpeg, ElevenLabs voiceovers, Playwright screen recording, MoviePy and AI image, music and video models, plus commands such as /video, /record-demo, /generate-voiceover and /publish. Its templates are sprint reviews, product demos and explainer shorts.
It's powerful and it's a project. Some features call paid services (ElevenLabs, cloud GPUs on Modal or RunPod), and it's aimed at explainers and demos more than talking-head reels. If you want a single curated list instead, wilwaldon's Claude-Code-Video-Toolkit links to this and other video skills, including Manim for maths animations.
Best for raw clips to a finished reel: a complete system
Here's what none of the skills above does alone: take a folder of raw clips and a brief, pick the takes, cut the pauses, write the hook, caption it in Hindi or Hinglish, add b-roll and graphics in your brand style, and let you give notes until it's right. You can build that by chaining five or six skills and writing your own caption components, which is a weekend for a developer and a wall for most creators.
Instant Studio (ours) is that system, already put together. It's built on Claude Code and runs on your own Windows 10/11 or macOS computer (8 GB+ RAM). It includes its own Claude editing skills for hooks, pacing, captions and b-roll timing, a dashboard, a motion sheet that shows the plan before anything renders, and design systems with your fonts, colours and caption look. It edits footage you shoot; it doesn't use stock or AI-generated footage.
It costs ₹2,999 a month (about US$32 abroad), cancel anytime, plus a paid Claude plan with Claude Code (Pro is enough to start), billed by Anthropic. No credits, no per-reel fees. That's more than free skills and cheaper than a freelance editor, who costs ₹8,000–₹1,50,000 a month depending on volume (see the comparison). It launched on 25 October 2026, so it has no long track record yet.
If you only need silences removed from podcasts, Cut Video is free and does that job. Pay for a system only when you want the whole edit done.
How do you install a Claude Code skill?
- Install Claude Code and sign in with a paid Claude plan that includes it.
- Install the tools the skill needs, usually FFmpeg, Python, Node.js and Whisper. The README lists them.
- Add the skill: clone it into
~/.claude/skills/<name>/, or for a plugin run/pluginand add its marketplace. - Restart Claude Code so it picks up the skill.
- Run it on a short test clip first, by typing
/skill-nameor describing the job.
What should you check before installing one?
- Read the scripts. A skill can run commands on your computer. Install only from sources you trust, and skim what it runs.
- Operating system. Many video skills are tested on Macs first.
- Language. Check which speech model it uses before trusting it with Hindi audio.
- Paid add-ons. Voice, image and GPU features often need API keys and their own bills.
- Licences. The skill may be MIT, but Remotion and some models have their own terms for companies.
The bottom line
Pick a skill for the job, not the star count. Remotion for animated video, Cut Video for clean recordings, Clipify or YouTube Clipper for clips from long videos, the digitalsamba toolkit for explainers and demos. If your job is "turn my raw clips into a finished reel every week, in my style", that takes a stack of skills plus your own components, or a system that already joins them up.

Questions people ask
What is a Claude video editing skill?
It's a folder with a SKILL.md file that tells Claude Code how to do a video job, such as cutting silences or building a Remotion animation. Claude loads it when your request matches, then runs tools like FFmpeg and Whisper on your computer. Skills don't work in the normal claude.ai chat window for editing footage.
What is the best Claude skill for video editing?
It depends on the job. For motion graphics and explainers made from code, the official Remotion plugin. For tightening long recordings, Tella's Cut Video. For clips from a long video, Clipify or YouTube Clipper. For raw clips to a finished, branded reel, you need several skills working together, or a complete system.
Are Claude Code skills free?
Most video skills are free and open source, often under the MIT licence. You still need a paid Claude plan that includes Claude Code, and some skills call paid services such as ElevenLabs or cloud GPUs. Remotion is free for individuals and companies of up to 3 employees; bigger companies need a company licence.
Do Claude video skills work on Windows?
Many are built and tested on a Mac. Tella's Cut Video, for example, is made for Apple Silicon and needs a flag removed to run on Windows or Linux. Check each skill's README for the operating system and the tools it installs before you rely on it.
Can Claude video skills edit Hindi or Hinglish videos?
Only if the transcription step is set up for Hindi. Some skills ship with English-only speech models, so cuts and captions go wrong on Hindi audio. Run a real Hindi clip through any skill before using it for client work. Instant Studio transcribes Hindi and writes Hinglish captions in Roman script.
