Comparison

Hire a video editor, or get one for ₹2,999 a month?

A good freelance editor turns your raw footage into reels that look like you. Instant Studio does the same job on your own computer, from the same raw clips, without a per-reel bill. Here's how they compare, including where a human editor still wins.

Short answer

Hire an editor if you need big creative concepts, VFX or a person to manage your whole channel. Use Instant Studio if you shoot your own videos and need them edited every week: it takes your raw clips and a reference reel and delivers the finished video in your style, for ₹2,999 a month instead of ₹800–₹8,000 per reel.

What you actually pay a video editor in India

Rates vary a lot by city, experience and how much thinking the editor does for you. Rate guides published by Indian editing services in October 2026 give these ranges:

What you hire Typical price (India, 2026)
Basic reel edit (cuts + captions) ₹300–₹1,500 per reel
Retention edit (hook, pacing, zooms, sound design) ₹2,000–₹3,500 per reel
Motion graphics or VFX-heavy reel ₹3,500–₹5,500 per reel
Concept-to-post (idea, edit, caption) ₹5,500–₹8,000+ per reel
Monthly package, 4–12 reels ₹8,000–₹25,000 per month
Agency retainer, 12–20 reels ₹25,000–₹1,50,000 per month

Sources: viptro.com (25 Oct 2026) and hunarbox.in (22 Oct 2026). Rush delivery and GST usually come on top. Treat these as ranges, not quotes: ask two or three editors in your city before you decide.

If you post three reels a week at a mid-range ₹2,500 per reel, that's about ₹30,000 a month, every month. Instant Studio costs ₹2,999 a month (about ₹35,988 a year), plus the Claude plan you pay Anthropic for. At ₹2,500 a reel, it costs less than an editor from your second reel of the month.

What Instant Studio does with your raw footage

You don't need a timeline or editing skills. The flow is three steps:

  1. Drop in your footage. Phone clips, camera files, screen recordings, photos, your logo. Talking heads, podcasts, vlogs, unboxings, montages.
  2. Describe the edit, and point at a reference. "Make this like the reel I've attached: fast cuts, bold yellow keywords, hook in the first second." Claude writes a motion sheet, the plan of every cut, caption and graphic, before anything renders.
  3. Give notes, get the final. "Cut the second retake, make the price pop, add the logo at the end." It re-renders in your brand style, 9:16 for reels and 16:9 for YouTube.

Everything runs on your own Windows PC or Mac, on your own Claude plan. Your footage is never uploaded to an Instant Studio server.

When you should still hire a human editor

We'd rather you buy the right thing:

  • You can't describe what you want. An experienced editor brings ideas. Instant Studio brings speed and consistency to ideas you have.
  • You need heavy VFX, 3D, colour grading for film, or long documentaries.
  • You want someone to run your whole Instagram: scripts, posting, replies, ads. That's an agency job, not an editor's.
  • You don't have a laptop or desktop. Instant Studio needs Windows 10/11 or macOS with 8 GB+ RAM. It doesn't run on phones.

A setup that works well for many brands: keep an editor for the one hero video a month, and use Instant Studio for the weekly reels.

The honest cost of Instant Studio

  • ₹2,999 a month for the software, billed automatically through Razorpay. Cancel anytime; updates are included while you're subscribed.
  • A paid Claude plan with Claude Code, billed by Anthropic. Pro is enough to start; if you edit a lot in one day you may hit your plan's usage limit and want a higher plan.
  • Your time to brief and review. Usually a few minutes per reel once your design system is set up.

No credits, no watermark, no per-reel fees.

Questions people ask

Is Instant Studio a replacement for a video editor?

For short-form work, mostly yes. You give it raw clips and a reference reel, and it plans the edit, cuts, paces, captions and adds b-roll and graphics in your brand style. A human editor still wins on big creative concepts, heavy VFX and shoots you can't describe.

How much does it cost to hire a reel editor in India?

Third-party rate guides published in October 2026 put freelance reel editing at roughly ₹800 to ₹8,000 per reel depending on complexity, and monthly packages at about ₹8,000 to ₹1,50,000. Instant Studio is ₹2,999 a month, cancel anytime, plus your own Claude plan.

Do I still need to shoot the footage myself?

Yes. Instant Studio edits footage you shoot; it does not generate fake footage or stock-video reels. That is why the result looks like your brand and not like a template.

How fast are revisions?

You type the note in plain English, for example "cut the first pause and make the hook bigger", and it re-renders. Most notes take minutes, not the next working day.

Can an agency or freelancer use Instant Studio for client reels?

Yes. Each client gets their own design system with fonts, colours and caption style, so one person can deliver many brands. Check the Remotion licence note if your company has more than 3 people.
