Video editing agency pricing in India, and the cheaper route
Agencies quote by the month, the project, the minute or the hour, so two quotes rarely line up. Here's what each model costs in 2026, what's inside a typical package, and when you don't need an agency at all.
Short answer
Video editing agencies in India typically charge ₹25,000–₹80,000 a month for 12–20 reels, and ₹60,000–₹1,50,000+ for fuller retainers, according to rate guides from October 2026. Project work runs from about ₹500 for a basic one-minute clip to ₹1,50,000+ for a corporate film. Rush delivery, extra revisions, music and 18% GST usually come on top.
How do video editing agencies price their work?
Agencies use four pricing models. Most quotes are one of these, or a mix:
| Model | Typical range (India, 2026) | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly retainer | ₹25,000–₹80,000 for 12–20 reels; ₹60,000–₹1,50,000+ for full retainers | Brands posting every week | Unused reels rarely roll over |
| Per project | ₹500 for a basic 1-minute clip; ₹15,000–₹50,000 for a 3-minute explainer; ₹1,50,000+ for a corporate film | One-off launches, ads, brand films | Scope creep after the quote |
| Per finished minute | ₹500–₹1,500 a minute; ₹3,000–₹5,000 for cinematic or animation work | YouTube and long-form | "Finished minute" excludes raw review time |
| Hourly | ₹1,500–₹3,000 an hour for an established agency | Open-ended or messy footage | No ceiling on the final bill |
Sources: reel retainers from viptro.com (25 Oct 2026); full retainers and per-minute rates from hunarbox.in (22 Oct 2026); project and hourly figures from IRPR's Pune pricing guide (8 Jul 2026). These are vendor-published ranges, and IRPR is itself an agency, so treat the top ends as benchmarks, not a price list.
How much does a video editing agency charge per month?
The monthly retainer is the most common agency deal for social media. Here's how the published ranges break down by volume:
| What you get | Monthly price | Implied cost per video |
|---|---|---|
| 12–20 reels, editing only | ₹25,000–₹80,000 | About ₹1,500–₹3,000 a reel |
| 12–15 reels with a content calendar | ₹25,000–₹60,000 | About ₹1,700–₹5,000 a reel |
| Dedicated editor on retainer | ₹30,000–₹80,000 | Depends on the agreed count |
| Full agency retainer (planning, editing, often posting) | ₹60,000–₹1,50,000+ | Varies widely |
The first two rows are from viptro.com (25 Oct 2026), the dedicated-editor row from IRPR (8 Jul 2026), and the full retainer from hunarbox.in (22 Oct 2026). The per-reel figures are simple division, so a ₹40,000 retainer for 15 reels works out to about ₹2,700 a reel before GST.
City matters as well. Agencies in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru usually quote higher than those in smaller cities, though remote work has narrowed the gap. See what we found for Mumbai and Delhi.
What's included in an agency package?
According to viptro.com's breakdown (25 Oct 2026), a typical agency reel package includes:
- A fixed number of edited reels a month (8, 12 or 20 are common).
- Hooks, captions and on-screen subtitles.
- Background music, trending or licensed.
- A cover (thumbnail) for each reel.
- One or two revision rounds per reel.
- Vertical exports for Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
Shooting, scripting, posting and monthly reports on reach and plays are often add-ons. Two quotes at ₹40,000 can mean very different things, so compare the list, not the number.
What extra costs should you budget for?
The retainer is rarely the whole bill. These are the extras that show up most often:
- Rush delivery: 20–50% more (IRPR, Jul 2026), and up to 60% at some agencies (viptro.com, Oct 2026).
- Extra revisions: ₹500–₹2,000 a round once the included two are used (IRPR).
- Stock footage and licensed music: passed through at cost plus a 10–15% handling fee (IRPR).
- GST: 18% on top if the agency is GST-registered.
- Project files: often not handed over unless you agree it up front.
Music needs a real conversation. A trending song that works in the Instagram app isn't automatically licensed for a brand's reel or an ad. Ask where the agency licenses its tracks from.
Is an agency worth it compared with a freelancer?
An agency costs more per video than a freelancer. IRPR's own guide (Jul 2026) puts a freelancer fresh out of design school at ₹300–₹500 an hour and an agency with a large portfolio at ₹1,500–₹3,000 an hour. That's three to ten times the rate.
What the extra buys you:
- A team, not one person. A strategist plans the calendar, an editor cuts, someone checks quality and schedules.
- Backup. When one editor is on leave in festival season, someone else picks up your reels.
- Deadlines in a contract. Fewer "I'll send it tomorrow" messages.
- Ideas. A good agency tells you what to shoot, not just how to cut it.
An agency is worth it when you need those things: ads, launches, a brand film, or a social calendar you have no time to plan. It's poor value when you already know what to post, shoot it yourself, and mainly need the same style of reel edited every week. Then you're paying a strategist's margin for work that's really just editing. Our full cost breakdown of hiring an editor compares freelancers, agencies and in-house hires side by side.
How to compare two agency quotes
Ask every agency the same seven questions and get the answers in writing:
- How many videos a month, of what length, and do unused ones roll over?
- How many revision rounds per video, and what counts as one round?
- What's the turnaround, and what does rush cost?
- Who picks the best takes from raw footage: you or them?
- Is music licensed for commercial use, and is it billed separately?
- Do I get the project files, or only the MP4s?
- Is the price inclusive or exclusive of 18% GST?
Then ask for one paid test edit at their normal rate before signing a three- or six-month retainer. It tells you more than any portfolio, and it shows whether their style suits your brand. More on briefing and judging editors is in our guide to video editing services in India.
The cheaper route: edit the weekly reels yourself
Many brands don't need an agency's ideas every week. They need ten or fifteen reels a month in a consistent style, cut from footage they already shoot. That's the job where an editing system you run yourself makes sense.
Instant Studio is a complete video editing system for that job. You add raw clips and a brief, or point it at a reference reel, and it delivers the finished video: cuts, captions (including Hindi and Hinglish), hook titles, b-roll from your own footage and motion graphics, in your saved brand style. It runs on your own Windows 10/11 PC or Mac with 8 GB+ RAM, and notes like "start on the balcony shot" are plain English.
It costs ₹2,999 a month, auto-renewing through Razorpay and cancel anytime, plus a paid Claude plan with Claude Code (Pro is enough to start), billed by Anthropic. There are no credits and no per-reel fees.
The honest comparison:
| Agency retainer | Instant Studio | |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly cost | ₹25,000–₹1,50,000+ | ₹2,999 + your Claude plan |
| Plans your content and shoots | Often, at extra cost | No |
| Edits raw footage into finished reels | Yes | Yes |
| Revisions | 1–2 rounds, then ₹500–₹2,000 each | Plain-English notes, re-rendered in minutes |
| Cost per extra reel | Goes up with volume | No per-reel cost |
| Posting and reports | Sometimes included | No |
It's more expensive than a caption app, because it does the whole edit rather than just the subtitles. It won't plan your campaign, shoot your video or post for you. A sensible split for many brands is to keep an agency or freelancer for the one hero video a month and edit the weekly reels in-house. You can put your own numbers into the reel editing cost calculator, or read the full Instant Studio vs hiring a video editor comparison.
If you run an agency: pricing your own packages
The same numbers apply from the other side. Editing hours are usually the line item that limits how many clients you can take on. If your retainers sit at ₹25,000–₹80,000 for 12–20 reels, every reel your team doesn't have to cut by hand protects your margin. That's how we built Instant Studio for agencies: one design system per client, client footage edited into finished reels, and feedback applied as notes. Price your packages on the strategy and service you deliver, not on editing hours.
Questions people ask
How much does a video editing agency charge per month in India?
Rate guides published in October 2026 put agency reel retainers at about ₹25,000–₹80,000 a month for 12–20 reels, and full agency retainers at ₹60,000–₹1,50,000 or more. The price depends on the number of videos, how complex they are, and whether planning, shooting and posting are included.
Is a video editing agency more expensive than a freelancer?
Usually, yes. One Pune agency's own guide (July 2026) puts a new freelancer at ₹300–₹500 an hour and an established agency at ₹1,500–₹3,000 an hour. The extra pays for a team: a strategist, quality checks, backup editors and fixed deadlines. If you don't need those, a freelancer or your own editing system costs less.
What is included in an agency's reel editing package?
A typical package covers a fixed number of reels a month, hooks, captions and subtitles, background music, cover design, one or two revision rounds per reel and vertical exports for Instagram and YouTube Shorts. Shooting, scripting, posting and monthly reports are often extra, so confirm the list in writing.
Do video editing agencies charge GST?
A GST-registered agency normally adds 18% GST to editing invoices. Ask whether the quote is inclusive or exclusive of GST before comparing it with a freelancer who may not be registered, and confirm the details with your CA.
How much extra do agencies charge for rush delivery?
Rate guides from 2026 put rush premiums at about 20–50%, and some agencies charge up to 60% on top of the normal price. Standard delivery for short edits is usually 3–5 working days, so plan launches and festival content early.
